Camarasaurus dig siteThe PaleoGallery team was involved this year in the excavation of a 90+% complete, well-articulated, Jurassic-age, Sauropod, Camarasaurus.  The 145+ million year old dinosaur was discovered on private ranch land in Big Horn County, WY by field paleontologist Bob Simon, Dinosaur Safaris Inc., and has been fully documented.

This Camarasaurus appears to have died, then bloated and floated onto a sand bar or sand spit in a river during a high-energy flooding event.  The dinosaur then began to decay and dry out, the neck and tail into constricting into a classic death position.  Lack of any evidence of scavenging indicates the dinosaur was inaccessible to meat-eating dinosaurs at the time.  Other flooding events then covered it, causing the skull to detach from the neck and lodge nearby.
